Educational pluralism: a cornerstone to achieve inclusive education

Article 14 of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights safeguards the freedom to establish educational institutions based on democratic principles and parental beliefs. Similarly, the European Pillar of Social Rights advocates universal access to quality and inclusive education. Do these two rights contradict or support one another?

This event will show how educational pluralism can be a cornerstone of building cohesive societies, at the time when the EU needs it the most. Two groundbreaking studies conducted by CEU-CEFAS & OIDEL and OIDEL & UNIR offer an unprecedented quantitative analysis of educational freedom worldwide. These research explore how empowering parents and their freedom to choose education for their children can lead to greater social cohesion in Europe.

The presentation will be followed by critical comments from the EU education stakeholders on how this research sheds light on future policies to be developed in Europe.
